What is Advanced Broadband?
Advanced Broadband is the name of the UK's most advanced and technically innovative wireless computer network designed to deliver Broadband to over 70% of Lincolnshire. The infrastructure which has been designed and installed especially for Lincolnshire covers the Objective 2 area and comprises of 32 masts erected in topographically strategic positions all over the county to ensure that well over 70% of the area is covered by the service.
How fast is it?
It's very fast, in fact if you already have ADSL broadband then you may be surprised to know that Advanced Broadband is 8 times faster at uploading to the Internet than your connection regardless of your connection speed or service provider. This is possible because all wired broadband services offer an upload speed of 256kb/s and our service maintains 2048kb/s (or 2mb/s as it is more commonly know as) upload speed as standard. The download rate is also 2mb/s which in itself is a blistering throughput but there are 2 more major factors which makes this the fastest contended business tool to date. Firstly the network is Synchronous which means the equipment can transmit and receive at the same time unlike ADSL (A=Asynchronous) which has to transmit then receive, transmit then receive and so on. Advanced Broadband can transmit and receive contiguous packet segments without interruption utilizing the maximum available bandwidth to maximum efficiency. The final major factor is the contention ratio. ADSL bandwidth is shared with other people in your area and although you may have a "high speed" connection you are sharing it with either 20 or 50 other people in your area, this is called the "contention ratio". Advanced Broadband has a contention ratio of only 10:1 meaning that more download bandwidth is available to you more often unlike other traditional broadband technologies.
Can I use more than 1 computer?
Absolutely, the service has been designed as a business tool and providing you have a Router which is capable of Firewalling your connection then you can use more than one PC on the Internet at the same time. If you need a Router then give us a call and we'll be happy to provide you one.
How many computers will it support?
Well that depends a lot on how your users use the Internet so it's not easy to say however as an example, based on the Internet Standard of each computer pulling 2k/s continuously over an 8 hours working day on average, Advanced Broadband will support upto 500 computers at the same time in one organisation.
Who installs it?
BT will come to your building and install a small diamond shaped dish, not dissimilar to a satellite dish. They will run a cable down the wall install a small box in your room near the receiver. This box has a Cat5 socket which is ready for your router. If you're not sure what to do after this to connect your computers to the service then we can come out and install the router for you, obviously this incurs a charge, to get a quote for this, please feel free to call us and we'll calculate the most cost effective way of connecting your IT systems to the service.
I cant get "Broadband" where I am. Can I get Advanced Broadband?
The footprint of the service covers over 70% of Lincolnshire and is built inside the Objective 2 area so if you're inside the boundaries of these areas then there is a very good chance you'll be able to get it. The service is not dependent on the distance from telephone exchanges etc but more the topographical nature of your surroundings.
How quickly can I get connected?
Connection normally takes 2 weeks following your site survey but if planning permission is required then this can take up to 60 days.
Do I need planning permission for the receiver?
Under certain circumstances you may need planning permission to allow BT to erect the receiver however if this is the case don't worry because we and BT together take care of this for you, you don't need to know anything about how planning permission works etc, just leave it to us.
